Barbara commenced her training in May 1975 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske and City hospital. On completion she worked in the Ear Nose & Throat department for 3 years and gained experience in Accident & Emergency and Orthopedics.

Barbara moved to South West London and worked at Queen Mary's University Hospital, Roehampton, where she worked in general surgery and a specialized limb surgery unit . This entailed working closely with bioengineering specialists and researchers of arterial diseases of the lower limbs. Following a move to Mid Essex, Barbara began her career in the community.

She completed her specialist practitioners degree in 1999, and has undertaken numerous courses including Nurse Prescribing, Diabetes and the Royal College of Nursing Leadership programme.

For the past seven years Barbara has worked in Thetford, Norfolk as a District Nursing Sister/Manager, managing a team of 10 nurses covering 4 surgeries, both rural and urban, with a total population of approx 32,000.

After identifying a need for a leg ulcer service, Barbara opened the first Leg Club in Norfolk and has now celebrated 4 very successful years. She is a Trustee of the Wound Care Society and has been on the Foundation Board of Trustees since the launch of the charity.
