Professor Richard White PhD

Richard White is Professor of Tissue Viability in the Department of Health, Social Care and Psychology at the University of Worcester and a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Tissue Viability, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He graduated in biochemistry and physiology, and completed his PhD in experimental dermatology at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, University of Liverpool. He has over thirty years' experience in dermatology and wound care, both as an academic researcher and in the medical devices industry. He has conducted and published scientific research in skin biochemistry and physiology and, more recently, numerous books on general approaches to wound management. In addition to his role as a Patron of the Leg Club, Richard is a past committee member of the Tissue Viability Society and current Treasurer of the Wound Care Society. He is an editorial board member of the Wounds-UK journal and the Journal of Lymphoedema. His role as Professor (the first and only such in the UK) is directed at improving delivery of Tissue Viability services in Primary Care. To that end Richard is working to establish close working links with those practitioners involved in the delivery of continence care, dermatology and skin care, wound care, and lymphoedema.
