Mark Millar
Mark commenced his registered nurse training in February 1996 through University College Suffolk based at the James Paget Hospital, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth. Upon successful completion of his training Mark took up the post of Staff Nurse at the Accident and Emergency department at Leicester Royal Infirmary. In 2001 Mark transferred to the Adult Cardiac Intensive Care and Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Unit at the Glenfield General Hospital.
However, it had become clear to Mark that Primary Care was where his future lay and within months of passing his driving test he took up his first post as a Community Staff Nurse based at a busy inner-city Health centre in Leicester.
Mark graduated from De Montfort University with a BSc Honours degree in Community Health Nursing (District Nursing) in 2006 and is currently working as a District Charge Nurse and Leg Club Lead Nurse for Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trust. Mark also sits as vice chair on The Leg Club Steering Group.
It was during his district nurse training that Mark first encountered the Leg Club model and his interest and enthusiasm grew rapidly. Mark's hope is that we will continue to see Leg Clubs opening across the UK to ensure all have access to this evidence based innovative approach to Leg Ulcer prevention and management.
