Dr Michael Clark
Dr Michael Clark is Senior Research Fellow and CETIC (Centres of Excellence for Technology and Industrial Collaboration) Manager within the Wound Healing Research Unit. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1980 with an Honours degree in Zoology and completed his PhD within the Scottish Farm Buildings Investigation Unit (Aberdeen University) in 1983. During his PhD studies, Dr Clark began his interest in the quantification of the forces applied to skin and soft tissue that may produce pressure ulceration.
Following postdoctoral work at the University of Strathclyde, Dr Clark joined the National Nursing Practice Research Unit, University of Surrey in 1986. Within this position he expanded his interested in pressure ulceration to encompass the epidemiology and economics of these interests in pressure ulceration to encompass the epidemiology and economics of these common wounds. Between 1993 and 1997, Dr Clark was Clinical Director (and for two years Marketing Director) of Pegasus Airwave Ltd gaining valuable expertise in product development and strategic business development. Dr Clark then joined the School of Electronics at the University of Glamorgan working upon the quantification of the forces applied to skin and their physiological consequences (for example skin blood flow, colour and temperature). Since April 2003 he has been extending these interests as leader of the WHRU physical measurement research group. Dr Clark is the Recorder of the European pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and Professional Advisor to the UK Tissue Viability Society. He is editor of the Journal of Tissue Viability and the EPUAP Review.
