Helen Scott
For the past two years Helen has been working as a part-time staff nurse at St Christopher's Hospice in SE London.
She is the editor of End of Life Care, a new journal that has been launched in association with St Christopher's Hospice and which is targeted specifically at nurses working outside the specialist palliative care setting. Previous to that she was editor of the British Journal of Nursing, a position she held for 10 years. She was also involved in launching the International Journal of Palliative Nursing and acted as its managing editor for 2 years.
Helen graduated from The University of Manchester with a BA Honours Degree in Drama in 1984. She originally trained as a registered nurse at the then Thomas Guy and Lewisham School of Nursing, qualifying in 1989. She worked in a variety of clinical settings before beginning her career in nurse publishing.
Helen works in a freelance capacity for various nursing publications. She has recently been involved in compiling a report on trauma and pain associated with palliative care wounds. Helen is an experienced speaker and has presented at many nursing conferences and conducts regular writing for publication workshops around the country. For the past three years Helen has served on the Ethics Committee of Dr Foster, an independent provider of research, analysis and communication products to UK health providers. She is also a consultant on writing for the University of Essex.
