Dr Joan-Enric Torra i Bou

Joan-Enric TorraDr Joan-Enric Torra has a nursing degree (BSC Nurse-RN) from the University of Barcelona, a Master in management and research in chronic wounds from the University of Cantabria (MSc Nurse) and Doctorate in health sciences from the University of Alicante (PhD).

He is currently associate professor at the Department of Nursing and Physiotherapy at the Universitat de Lleida (Campus Igualada) and researcher of the Universitat Central de Catalunya TR2Lab research group (Tissue Repair and Regeneration Laboratory).
Joan Enric is member of the steering Committees of the GNEAUPP (Spanish Pressure Ulcers and Chronic Wounds Advisory Panel) and the EPUAP (European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel).  In addition, Dr Torra is managing director and founder of SAPIENS FHWC Consultants (www.sapiens-FHWC.com) , the first comprehensive wound care consultancy in Spain and Latino America and is the editor of the Blog Piel Segura (www.prevencionulcerasyheridas.com)

During his career as a nurse and advanced wound care practitioner he has worked in primary care, in health planning in the Catalan Department of Health and was the founder of the first unit for chronic wounds in Spain at the Consorci Sanitari de Terrasa. He has worked for over 15 years in the healthcare industry in clinical, training and research positions in addition to lecturing at a large number of institutions in Spain, Europe and Latin America.

His interests in wound care research and education are wide-ranging and include: chronic wounds, epidemiology and costs, pressure ulcers prevention and treatment, leg ulcers, complex wounds, paediatric wounds, epidermolysis bullosa, advanced skin care, incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD), patient safety issues related to wound care, health economics and efficacy and efficiency in wound care, surgical site infection epidemiology and prevention, quality of life and patient compliance as well as patients empowerment and advocacy
 
He was honoured in 1996 with National Award of Nursing Research from the Spanish Nurses Council and in 2004 with a Gold Distinction from the GNEAUPP

Dr Torra has published over 140 papers on wound care and other healthcare related or scientific topics. He is the author of several chapters in wound care books and co-edited two editions of the first Spanish wound care textbook.
 
Joan Enric  is supporting the charitable sector in nursing and wound care practice (Leg Club Foundation and other institutions) and advocating for marginalised population wound care.
